Now we get into what happened after the Roswell Incident was silenced.

Late July 1947;

A deeply upset Mac Brazel tells the Stricklands (his neighbors) what happened in Roswell. Through he complains bitterly about his treatment there, he honors his oath of secrecy and says nothing about what he found.

Marian Strickland was a neighbor of Mac Brazel. Marian Strickland was interviewed in 1990.

Mac made it plain he was not supposed to tell that there was any excitement about the material he found on the ranch. He was a man who had integrity. He definitely felt insulted, misused and disrespected. He was worse than annoyed. He was definitely under some stress, and felt that he had been kicked around.

He was threatened that if he opened his mouth, he might get thrown in the back side of the jail. He gave that impression, definitely.

http://www.qsl.net/w5www/roswell.html

Bill Brazel (Mac’s son) finds one of the pieces of foil-like material his father had described. Brazel shows this bit of debris to Sally Strickland (later Tadolini after marriage).

(1) My name is Sally Strickland Tadolini

(2) My address is: XXXXXXXXXX

(3) I am employed as: XXXXXXXX ( )I am retired.

(4) In July 1947, I was nine years old and lived with my parents, Lyman and Marian Strickland, and my two brothers on our ranch in Lincoln County, New Mexico. The neighboring ranch was the Foster place, which was managed by William W. ("Mac") Brazel. His house was about 10 miles from ours.

(5) I remember my parents talking about Mac Brazel finding a lot of unusual debris in one of his pastures and that there was a great deal of excitement about it among the neighbors. I recall the adults at first thought it was some kind of newfangled weather balloon, then deciding, no, there was no way it could be anything like that. I also recall that, later, the neighbors talked about how badly Mac Brazel had been treated, and that when he came back to the ranch, he never wanted to talk about what he had found.

(6) A week or so after all the excitement, Mac's son Bill, who was quite a bit older and married [added later: I am not certain that he was married at that time], stopped by our house. He had someone with him, and while I am not absolutely certain, I think it was his brother Vernon, who was my age. We--my father, brothers, myself, and possibly my mother--sat at the kitchen table with them. Bill showed us a piece of the thing his father had found, and he asked us not to say anything about it.

(7) What Bill showed us was a piece of what I still think of as fabric. It was something like aluminum foil, something like satin, something like well-tanned leather in its toughness, yet it was not precisely like any one of these materials. While I do not recall this with certainty, I think the fabric measured about four by eight or ten inches. Its edges, which were smooth, were not exactly parallel, and its shape was roughly trapezoidal. It was about the thickness of very fine kidskin glove leather and a full metallic grayish silver, one side slightly darker than the other. I do not remember it having any design or embossing on it.

(8) Bill passed it around, and we all felt of it [sic]. I did a lot of sewing, so the feel made a great impression on me. It felt like no fabric I have touched before or since. It was very silky or satiny, with the same texture on both sides. Yet when I crumpled it in my hands, the feel was like that you notice when you crumple a leather glove in your hand. When it was released, it sprang back into its original shape, quickly flattening out with no wrinkles. I did this several times, as did the others. I remember some of the others stretching it between their hands and "popping" it, but I do not think anyone tried to cut or tear it.

Also, late in July, the 26th to be exact, less than a month after the event, the National Security Act completely overhauled the entire defense department and created the Air Force, the CIA, and even the National Security Council. This act seemed to have been hastily conceived, even signed by Truman while aboard his plane, the Douglas VC-54C “Sacred Cow” (personally, I think the newer “Air Force 1” designation is a big improvement, hehe…) So, with this act, we’ve got centralized intelligence, all being funneled into one agency, with a council of overseers. Admittedly, the connection to Roswell here is merely speculative, but I find it suspicious that such a drastic overhaul would be put into effect without a LOT of pre-planning.

Like the more recent establishment of the Department of Homeland Security, this appears to be more in response to a crisis, than a pre-planned reorganization. Indeed, compared to how long it took the DoHS to come into effect (which bureaucratically speaking, was pretty quickly), the 1947 overhaul is almost overnight.

August 1947

Mac Brazel and ranch hand Tommy Tyree spot a piece of wreckage floating in the water at the bottom of a sinkhole. Neither man bothers to climb down to retrieve it. (from interviews and statements) Not a particulary important happening, but at least worth mentioning.

September 1947

Lewis S. Rickett is assigned to assist Dr Lincoln La Paz from the University of New Mexico. La Paz's assignment is to determine, if possible, the speed and trajectory of the craft when it hit. According to Rickett, they discover a touchdown point five miles from the debris field where the sand has crystallized, apparently from the heat, and they find more of the foil-like material. La Paz, who apparently does not know that bodies were recovered, concludes that the object was an unoccupied probe from another planet.

CIC Master Sergeant Lewis “Bill” Rickett (NCOIC)

Two months later, in September 1947, Rickett was given another field assignment. He was ordered to assist Manhattan Project scientist Dr. Lincoln La Paz, from the University of New Mexico at Albuquerque. La Paz was a famous meteor expert, as well as a nuclear scientist, and had just arrived at the base in Roswell after being briefed in Washington, D.C. La Paz and Rickett's assignment was to determine the speed and trajectory of the object that impacted north of town.

According to Rickett, he and La Paz discovered a possible touchdown point about five miles northwest of the debris field. Not only did they recover identical material as that which Rickett had handled before, they were startled to find that the sand in the high-desert terrain had crystallized, apparently as a result of exposure to tremendous heat.

They spent a total of three weeks interviewing witnesses and making their calculations, which were contained in La Paz's official report. Rickett never had a chance to see the document, which was delivered directly to the Pentagon. The professor did confide to the plainclothes intelligence specialist that, based on all the physical evidence they'd collected and tested, the original object was an "unmanned interplanetary probe."

Glenn Dennis learns that his nurse friend has been killed. A letter returned as undeliverable indicates the addressee is deceased. Nurses at the Roswell base tell him that she was killed in an aircraft accident while stationed in London, England. (this is from Dennis’ testimony, cited earlier)

November 1947

Arthur Exon, assigned at Wright Field, flies over the debris field and the impact site. The tracks of the trucks and jeeps are still visible, as is the gouge. Exon was a Lt. Colonel at Wright Field during incident. He was later stationed at the Pentagon. He retired as a Brig. General. Though he admits to not having first hand knowledge of the debris, he was familiar with it through personnel involved. His first hand account is primarily in the fly-over of the debris field and impact site, and reinforces the accounts given by others.

September 1948

Rickett, while in Albuquerque, meets with La Paz. La Paz remains convinced that an unoccupied probe from another planet crashed in New Mexico the year before. In his secret dealings with various government projects La Paz has found nothing to cause him to change his mind.

One year later, Rickett met once again with Dr. La Paz, this time in Albuquerque. La Paz remained convinced that the object which crashed near Corona, N.M., was from another planet. In all his confidential meetings with various government agencies, he said, he had learned nothing which contradicted that position

October 1948

Rickett meets with John Wirth, another CIC agent. Rickett asks Wirth about the status of the material recovered at Roswell and is told that they had yet to figure it out. According to Wirth, they hadn't been able to cut it.

The very next month, while on assignment in Washington, D.C., Rickett met with fellow counterintelligence agent John Wirth. Rickett asked about the status of the materials recovered at Roswell the previous year. According to Wirth, the government's top researchers had yet to identify its metallurgic content and still "hadn't been able to cut it."

Summer 1950

From time to time in the two years following the crash, Bill Brazel has found "scraps" of the craft. His father confirms this, saying, "That looks like some of the contraption I found." Bill Brazel, in Corona, mentions his discoveries. The next day Captain Armstrong and three others from the Roswell base arrive and ask for the material. Armstrong reminds Brazel that his dad cooperated with them. It is the younger Brazel's patriotic duty to give it up. Brazel can't think of a good reason to deny it to them and surrenders it. (according to Bill Brazel’s testimony).

Skeptics point out that they can find no records for this Captain Armstrong at RAAF. Interestingly enough though, Brazel isn’t the only one to describe the red-haired captain, nor the only one to name him by name. Gerald Anderson, a young boy at the time, also independently mentions the captain by name, and the red hair. Many other witnesses (such as Glenn Dennis) have identified this red-headed captain, but didn’t recall the name. Whether a member of a covert group, or a casualty of the records fire, or even more simply, not attached to the base, who knows, but we’ve still got numerous witnesses pointing out and naming this man.

1952

Major Ellis Boldra, an engineer stationed at Roswell, discovers samples of the debris locked in a safe in the engineering office. In the course of his experiments, he tries to burn and melt it with an acetylene torch and to cut it with a large variety of tools. Although extremely thin, the metal resists his efforts. When crumpled, it quickly returns to its original shape.

Boldra subjected the sample to a number of tests. It was thin, incredibly strong, and dissipated heat in some manner. Boldra used an acetylene torch on the material, which didn't melt and barely got warm. It didn't glow when heated, and once the flame was removed, it could be handled in seconds. Boldra tried to cut it with a variety of tools and failed. No one remembers if he tried to drill through it. One of Boldra's friends said that it wasn't any type of metal that he could identify. (Randle & Schmidt, interviews with Boldra’s son and friends)

1969

As Americans walk on the moon, Melvin F. Brown tells his family that he has seen the wreckage of an extraterrestrial craft and the bodies of the crew. He assisted in the recovery; taking the bodies into Roswell.

Sgt. Melvin Brown

Melvin E. Brown, a sergeant with the 509th Atomic Bomb Squadron at Roswell Army Air Field in 1947, told family members that he had seen the bodies recovered at Roswell when he was given the task of guarding a number of them after they were placed in the rear of a military truck.

(Also, see earlier cited testimony for this witness, as well as answers for skeptics regarding this witness)

1972

Inez Wilcox tells her granddaughter Barbara Dugger of the involvement of the Chaves County sheriff in the events of 1947. She says her husband, Sheriff Wilcox, was informed that one of the beings survived the crash. Mrs. Wilcox says rnilitary personnel used death threats to keep the family from talking about the events. (from numerous interviews)

1978

Pappy Henderson confides in his close friend John Kromschroeder that he flew wreckage from a crashed saucer out of Roswell and to Dayton, Ohio. He shows Kromschroeder a fragment of the debris and tells his friend that he saw alien bodies.

Oliver "Pappy" Henderson

John’s affidavit:

(1) My name is John Kromschroeder, DDS.

(2) My address is:

(3) I am retired from the field of dentistry.

(4) I met Oliver W. "Pappy" Henderson in 1962 or 1963. I learned that we shared an interest in metallurgy. We participated in several joint business ventures.

(5) In 1977, which was the 30th anniversary of Roswell event, Henderson told me about the Roswell incident. He said he transported wreckage and alien bodies to Wright Field in Dayton, Ohio. He described the wreckage as "spacecraft garbage." He said "the passengers suffered their death." He described the beings as small.

(6) Approximately one year later, Henderson produced a piece of metal taken from the craft. I gave it a good thorough looking at and decided that it was an alloy that we are not familiar with. It was a gray lustrous metal resembling aluminum, but lighter in weight and much stiffer.

(7) I have not been paid or given anything of value to make this statement, which is the truth to the best of my recollection.

Stanton Friedman (UFO researcher, Nuclear Physicist) is at a television station in Baton Rouge, LA, when the station manager suggests that he contact Jesse Marcel. He found Marcel in Houma, LA, now retired from the service.

"Out of the blue, he says, 'you know, the guy you ought to talk to is Jesse Marcel. He handled the wreckage of one of those saucers you're interested in when he was in the military,' " Friedman told ABC News.

Jesse Marcel is interviewed by a number of researchers, including Leonard H. Stringfield and Stanton Friedman. Marcel tells them that he is sure the wreckage is nothing from earth. Later, Marcel grants interviews to various news organizations, but those reports do not gain wide dissemination.

Leonard Stringfield

December 1979

Reporter Bob Pratt interviews and later publishes his interview with Jesse Marcel in which Marcel "admitted that he was the intelligence officer who had recovered the parts of a flying saucer."

January 1980

Charles Berlitz and William L. Moore publish "The Roswell Incident", the first attempt at a comprehensive analysis of the events at Roswell. In the course of his research, Moore located and interviewed more than seventy witnesses who had some knowledge of the event.

Syndicated television program "In Search Of" airs an episode about UFO coverups and interviews Marcel. In the course of that interview, Marcel again insists the material he saw had no earthly origin.

1980/1981

After reading a story about the events at Roswell in a tabloid newspaper, Pappy Henderson tells his wife, Sappho, that everything in the story was true. He knows from his own personal involvement. He is surprised that the story is being released and, moreover; that it is accurately reported. He says even the descriptions of the bodies are accurate. Sappho’s affidavit:

(1) My name is Sappho Henderson

(2) My address is: XXXXXXXX

(3) I am retired.

(4) My husband was Oliver Wendell Henderson, who was called "Pappy," because he was older than the other pilots in his squadron during World War II and had prematurely gray hair. We met during World War II, when he flew with the 446th Bomb Squadron; he flew B-24s and had 30 missions over Germany, for which he received two Distinguished Flying Crosses and the Air Medal with Four Oak Leaf Clusters.

(5) After the war, he returned home and was sent to Galveston Air Force Base, then transferred to Pueblo AFB, and then sent to Roswell (later Walker AFB), where he stayed for 13 years.

(6) While he was stationed at Roswell, he ran the "Green Hornet Airline," which involved flying C-54s and C-47s, carrying VIPs, scientists and materials from Roswell to the Pacific during the atom bomb tests. He had to have a Top Secret clearance for this responsibility. After separating from the service, he operated a construction business in Roswell. He died on March 25, 1986.

(7) In 1980 or 1981, he picked up a newspaper at a grocery store where we were living in San Diego. One article described the crash of a UFO outside Roswell, with the bodies of aliens discovered beside the craft. He pointed out the article to me and said, "I want you to read this article, because it's a true story. I'm the pilot who flew the wreckage of the UFO to Dayton, Ohio. I guess now that they're putting it in the paper, I can tell you about this. I wanted to tell you for years." Pappy never discussed his work because of his security clearance.

(8) He described the beings as small with large heads for their size. He said the material that their suits were made of was different than anything he had ever seen. He said they looked strange. I believe he mentioned that the bodies had been packed in dry ice to preserve them. He was not aware of the book [The Roswell Incident] that had been published about this event at the time he told me this.

(9) I have not been paid or given anything of value to make this statement, which is the truth to the best of my recollection.

1991

Bill Rickett receives a phone call from his former commander, Sheridan Cavitt (you’ll remember him as the one who went with Marcel to the debris field, and later didn’t provide Marcel with the report).

One can well imagine Bill Rickett's surprise when, after more than 40 years of silence, he received an evening phone call in 1991 from his former commanding officer.

"Happy birthday, Bill," said the voice on the other end of the phone. "Its 'Cav,' your old boss."

After exchanging niceties, Cavitt queried, "Have you been talking to anyone about what happened back in 1947?" Rickett identified one specific investigator, whom Cavitt knew as well.

"What have you been telling him?" pried Cavitt. "We both know what really happened out there, don't we, Bill?"

"We sure do," Rickett responded.

After a short pause Cavitt snapped back, "Well, maybe someday. Goodbye, Bill."

Lewis "Bill" Rickett, who passed away in October 1993, never heard from Cavitt again.

Mid to Late 1990’s

The Air Force attempts to quell public interest in the story by doing what they’ve always done since Blue Book…come out with a very scientific-“looking” report, only to of course realize later how inept it is, and then come out with an even more inept “final word” on the subject.

This is similar to the strategy employed in the 1952 case involving the Washington UFOs and temperature inversions theory, only to come out later and claim how erroneous that was. (that case by the way, remains listed as “unexplained” in Blue Book’s files, despite the lengthy report commissioned to convince us all it was temperature inversions on the radar screens. I suppose the military didn’t like calling so many of their own pilots mistaken, as they visually sighted and tracked these objects, which of course, shoots down the inversion theory)

In the mid to late 1990's, the United States Air Force responded to a General Accounting Office inquiry regarding what has become known as the "Roswell Incident" with two reports explaining the Air Force's version of the events. The "Roswell Incident" refers to witness accounts of debris from an Unidentified Flying Object (UFO) and alien corpses from the alleged UFO crash near the town of Roswell, New Mexico. The second of the reports addresses the likelihood that the "alien corpses" seen in the New Mexico desert were actually anthropomorphic dummies from high-altitude parachute drops conducted with dummies from the Aero Medical Laboratory at Wright Air Development Center.

http://www.scifi.com/ufo/roswell/articles/009.html

Both reports can also be read at the above link, if you wish to see the Air Force version of the incident. You can read how they believe that seasoned officers from Sergeants to Generals are fooled by balsa wood, tin foil, and neoprene, and how the aliens people think they saw were really from tests done 5 years after the event, using human sized dummies in military flight suits.

And so, nearly half a century later, we’re still really at the same point regarding what the US military has to say on the incident. They still insist that all of this secrecy, that keeping Brazel in custody, the military cordon, the quick flights, etc. that all of this was to protect the military secrets of balsa wood, tin foil, and neoprene. Even the skeptics will admit that only the PURPOSE of Mogul was classified, and that it consisted of off the shelf technology. So, if this was Mogul, then why all the fuss? Surely it wasn’t necessary to crate up such debris in such secrecy. Why do so many witnesses all describe the same strange characteristics of the debris? Surely, they wouldn’t have been fascinated with tin foil or balsa wood… No, this was debris that could retain shape, couldn’t be cut, was stronger than steel, yet light as a feather, etc.

We’d also have to believe that numerous military officers, including those in Intelligence, from Sergeants to Generals, could somehow be unable to identify balloon wreckage when they saw it. Now I haven’t had any former military training myself, but I’d bet a paycheck that I could pretty much tell the difference between balloon wreckage, and something as out of the ordinary as what the witnesses described…

Perhaps the biggest mistake, was then the Air Force’s final word on the crash. In their effort to sweep it under the rug, they even went so far as to address the bodies. Obviously, they felt the claim of bodies warranted some kind of explanation. It would have been far wiser to simply ignore this aspect, and yet the majority of the last report on this, is spent trying to convince the public that crash dummies (man sized, and in military uniforms) from tests done FIVE YEARS AFTER the incident, were somehow being confused for 4’ tall aliens. It's actually an insult to the average person's intelligence for even suggesting we believe such an explanation.

It is of course, for the reader to decide. I’ve given you the best facts I’ve seen…the ones that convinced me that this case is the real deal…the ones that convinced me that yes, we’ve been visited by beings not from around here, and that yes, the government knows far more than it’s telling. I hope you’ve found this series of posts enjoyable and informative, regardless on your views on Roswell or aliens in general.

presents;
The 1991 UFO Chronology

Created; October 15, 2008;
This is currently an 8-page chronology of UFO incidents and events for 1991. Our thanks for these chronologies must go to Richard Hall (the original 1991 chronology from UFOE II), Dan Wilson (archive researcher), and Jean Waskiewicz (online NICAP DBase [NSID]. You will note the many foreign reports that we are now being able to access. Our special thanks to Dan Wilson for getting those to us. As more come in, this page will be updated. Previous chronologies (1947 to 1969) involved the expertise of two other team members; Rebecca Wise (Project Blue Book Archive) and Brad Sparks (Comprehensive Catalog of Project Blue Book Unknowns).

Bob Gribble's entries are those filed with the National UFO Reporting Center in Seattle, Washington, now operated by Peter Davenport. Trace cases are now being entered with the help of Ted Phillips, Center for Physical Trace Research and retrofitted into previous chronologies as time permits. Since I was Indiana State Director (MUFON) at that time, many of our Indiana cases are listed here.

The 1991 UFO Chronology

1991: Date unknown; Los Angeles, CA

This photograph was allegedly taken by one Dorothy Drudge, near the Los Angeles International Airport. She stated that it was so foggy you could hardly see. The object reportedly never made a sound, and was "gone in a heartbeat".

Jan. 13, 1991; Pittsburgh, PA
U.S. Air flight crew saw a rectangular, light-reflective object that flew into clouds (Volume II, The UFO Evidence, Section III).

Jan. 16, 1991; Gulf Breeze, FL
7:50 PM. A red ball of light was sighted over the Sikes Bridge. It moved west, hovered, and then drifted in the sky for five minutes. (Source: Bruce S. Maccabee, MUFON 1991 Conference Proceedings, p. 249)

Jan. 16, 1991; Bettignies, France
8:00 PM. A car's headlights dimmed and the car radio experience radio interference when a huge black, delta-shaped craft passed by at a low altitude. The UFO rose to a higher altitude and flew off rapidly toward the east. (Source: Lumieres dans la Nuit, January 1997)

Jan. 19, 1991; MA
10:30 PM. A 31-year-old respiratory therapist was driving home and observed a domed disc with a large square window emitting white light. It hovered low (25 feet) over a tree across the street that was only 360 feet away. Electrical interference was reported in the form of static on the telephone. (Donald Ware, MUFON UFO Journal, March 1992, p. 19).

Feb. 1991; Bloomington, IN
11:30 PM.. A couple driving in the Lake Monroe area witnessed a ball of light, like a "nerf ball", pass over their auto from front to back (east to west). Described as 7-8" diameter and less than 10' from them. Observation time: 1-2 minutes. (MUFON Indiana, FI Will Ott)

Feb. 21, 1991; Corydon, IN
10:00 PM. There were two witnesses in this rural sighting. "Ms. M." and her girl companion described the lights as shaped like a triangle with three lights, one light on each side, and one on top with a smaller red light in the middle. She thought there may be something connecting all these lights, some sort of structure. The light followed her car, seeming to stop and hover at times, change direction, ascend up and down.

As the car approached the Louisville area, the lights disappeared from view. When closest to them the object was reportedly at around 125 yards distant, and at one point 80-100' from the ground. The only sound reported was a humming sound. Duration of sighting: 25-minutes. Both girls visibly shaken. (MUFON Indiana, FIs Delehanty, Baker & Tipton).

March 2, 1991; Sosnovyy Bor, Russia
7:30 PM. A fast moving UFO flew in an erratic pattern over a nuclear power plant. It was picked up on airport radar in Leningrad (St. Petersburg). (Source: Timothy Good, Alien Update, p. 176).

March 3, 1991; Sandy, OR
8:55 PM. A high speed white disc-shaped object made fast turns, and ascended and descended over Sandy, Oregon. (Source: Paul Ferrughelli, Computer Catalogue of UFO Reports, 1988-94, case 1043, citing Skip Schultz).

March 6, 1991; Kingston, Ontario, Canada
7:58 A.M. Glowing blue-green cigar-shaped object crossed path of Flight 866 (Volume II, The UFO Evidence, Section III).

March 9, 1991; south of Fortaleza, Brazil
Shortly after midnight a UFO pursued a couple named Silva in their car on a highway south of Fortaleza, Brazil. The domed disc emitted heat and made a humming sound. It left, returned, left again, then returned a second time and dropped a transparent two-meter wide ball that blew up in front of their car, only six feet away. They believe the UFO intended to harm them. (Sources: Jerome Clark, UFO Calendar 1999; Bob Pratt, UFO Danger Zone: Terror and Death in Brazil--Where Next?, p. 216).

March 10, 1991; Citrus Heights, CA
10:30 PM. A 22-year-old man observed a light gray triangular object flying at 2000-3000 feet altitude. The object was estimated to be 200 feet in diameter, had rounded corners, and flew silently at a speed of between 100 and 150 mph. It flew on a straight course, going directly overhead and finally passed beyond some trees. He could see the lightless object due to its reflection of lights from the ground. (Sources: MUFON field investigations database, case 911003W, John G. Maylone field investigator; Robert Gribble, MUFON UFO Journal, November 1992, p. 19).

March 18, 1991; Kunshan, China
Airliner encounters ring-shaped object.

April, 1991; Space Shuttle Atlantis, mission STS-37;
During the mission of the Space Shuttle Atlantis "STS-37", a metallic object arrives from the top and then swings in front of the video camera (it moves to the right and to the left, up and down). In the background we can see the earth.

April 2, 1991; Faribault, MN
7:00 PM. A large cylinder with many lights flew slowly over Faribault and hovered for a short while. There were many witnesses, who also attested to the presence of many military aircraft in the sky at the same time. (Source: Paul Ferrughelli, Computer catalogue of UFO reports, 1988-1994, case 1060, citing the UFO Newsclipping Service.)

April 11, 1991; Brasilia, Brazil
5:00 PM. A luminous ovoid object hovered over a prisonl. It had a vertical orientation, and vanished and then reappeared. (Source: Bob Pratt, UFO Danger Zone: Terror and Death in Brazil--Where Next? p. 285).

April 21, 1991; Heathrow Airport, London, UK
Alitalia Airlines MD-80 on final approach saw round object/missile cross its path, confirmed by radar (Volume II, The UFO Evidence, Section III).

May 12, 1991; Huejutla, Mexico
Three elongated silver UFOs appeared in the daylight sky during a UFO conference being held in Huejutla, Mexico. (Source: Lucius Farish, UFO Newsclipping Service, October 1993).

May 12, 1991; Camp Redondo, Brazil
7:00 PM. A fiery ball of light levitated a man off the ground twice north of Camp Redondo in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. He felt heat and cold and suffered an eye injury. (Source: Bob Pratt, UFO Danger Zone, p. 2).

May 14, 1991; Lancaster, CA
11:00 PM. The witness was suddenly awakened by three 4.5 foot tall Grey humanoids, with large black slanted eyes, who began lifting her from her bed. She began to struggle with the beings, when she noticed a tall human in the living room dressed entirely in black and holding a device resembling a small TV set. She broke loose from the Greys and yelled for her husband to wake up. He did, and they now both ran to the kitchen after hearing their dog barking in the backyard.

They then saw a man wearing a blue Air Force blue uniform lying prone on a projecting part of their roof near a ladder. A K-9 sentry dog that appeared ready to attack their dog, was also now on the ground below, accompanied by the three Grey humanoid beings. Overhead a number or red lights were hovering. The witness yelled, "Do not kill my dog!" Her next recollection was standing alone in her yard next to the generator shack. A large craft with revolving red lights hovered above her and a thick fog was coming out of some ports around the object.

She next remembered waking up and sitting up in her bed at 3:50 a.m. She was later hypnotically regressed, and recalled being taken to an underground facility, but would not elaborate about the details. 2:00 AM. Three young girls (ages 10-12) were watching TV, and when the program concluded they went out to jump on a trampoline. They saw a white, oval-shaped light move rapidly from one side of the backyard near the tree where the "entity" was first sighted. Entity was described as small, white, and very skinny with long skinny fingers and bald, egg-shaped head. (MUJ-282)

Night. A white sphere hovered over a field. Several times a much smaller red light emerged from the white object, descended to the ground, drifted for awhile, ascended, and then merged back into the large object. (Source: Timothy Good, Alien Update, p. 229).

Aug. 13, 1991; near Victoria, Entre Rios, Argentina
10:00 PM. Four men staying at a local guest house were alerted to two maneuvering lights in the sky. One was yellow and the other red, and they first moved up and down, then in a triangular pattern. One of the lights then descended onto the road near the guesthouse. Two dark human-like figures emerged from the landed object and appeared to float above the ground moving around back and forth.

Although they were human-like, their heads were slightly larger than normal. Suddenly the light illuminating the object turned off, and a white bowl-shaped object could be discerned. A few of the witnesses were not able to see the figures completely, and only saw their arms and legs. Later that same evening a man reported that he had been abducted, and awakened in a nearby garden as a blue beam was being retracted into a departing UFO. (Sources: Albert S. Sept. 26, 1991; New Salem, IN
6:45 PM. The Stock Commissioner and two friends were traveling east on Hwy 52, approximately one mile west of New Salem. It was still daylight. Confidential witness: "I was a passenger in the right back seat in a car headed east on Hwy 52. I was looking to the south when the craft appeared." At first he thought it might be "a large plane".

He was amazed "that something that big could disappear so fast. It looked like a large aircraft with no engines or fuselage. I could not detect any movement." It was described as cigar-shaped and a dull gray with four banks of four very large bright lights. Both ends of the craft were fuzzy. The cigar shape appeared to be about 20' thick and about 200' long, although the drawing by the witness (Exhibit IN) suggests more of a 15-to-l ratio. Height above ground appeared to be about 300', range about 300 yards.

"We passed a group of trees which blocked my view for about two seconds in which time it disappeared." Time in view, about two seconds. The driver didn't see the object and therefore didn't fill out a Form 1. The front passenger, James Payne, said he saw 6-8 bright lights approximately 200-300' off the ground. Duration was more like 3-5 seconds and the white round lights appeared to be in a row, rather than four groups of four. Both men had good vision and both wore glasses. Any sound produced by the object would have been masked by car and air conditioner. (MUFON Indiana, FI Don Worley)

3:30 AM. A shiny crescent-shaped UFO was chased by a taxi and police east from the city. It flew at an estimated 600 meters altitude, hovered, maneuvered, and made turns around itself. It finally disappeared at dawn around six a.m. (Source: Timothy Good, Alien Update, p. 239).

Nov. 8, 1991, Elkland, MO
Evening. A man had a close encounter with a much more complex UFO. While out trying to photograph a spectacular display of the northern lights, itself a rare sight this far south, he sighted an object which he described as the familiar "two saucers together rim to rim" at not much more than treetop height above the ground. The main body of the object, which he estimated to be about fifty feet in diameter and maybe twenty feet thick at the center, was dark and did not appear to reflect any light at all.

Its most striking feature was what looked like a row of windows lit from the inside which circled the object. Although showing the shape of the object more clearly, the lights were too bright to allow a comfortable view of the interior. The UFO was gliding along in level flight at slow speed when first sighted, but quickly began to gain both altitude and speed. As it rose into the air the change in perspective brought into view three dim red lights in a triangular pattern on the underside.

It was at this point that the startled witness remembered he was holding a camera. The single photograph he managed to take before the object climbed out of sight is nothing spectacular, probably due to the dim nature of the red lights, but it does serve to offer evidence that something out of the ordinary was there. 5:30 PM. A couple driving a car saw a silver, triangular-shaped UFO with rounded corners. It emitted an arc of white light. A second identical triangle then appeared, and the two UFOs circled a nearby lake. The UFOs moved erratically, sometimes at a slow speed, sometimes very fast. Late night. Three young farm hands were playing cards in a small shack on a farm when a bright light outside caught their attention. Frightened, they looked out and saw a huge luminous object resting nearby on the ground. About 15 small humanoid figures were walking about near the object. The beings wore helmets with lights on them, resembling those worn by miners, and seemed to be wearing small capes on their shoulders. The UFO and the short humanoids stayed in the area most of the night.

The next morning a circular ground trace was found at the landing site. A dog reacted during the incident. (Source: Albert S. Rosales, Humanoid Contact Database 1991, case # 2764, citing Carlos Iurchuk, FAO).

Dec. 26, 1991; Bekes, Hungary
The 21-year-old witness had heard a very loud voice in his room on the night of December 4, 2001, telling him "you will meet us soon." This was repeated for 11 nights in a row. He could not locate the source of the voice. On this night he was returning home from the movies when he caught sight of a hovering shiny gray disc-shaped object over the courtyard.

He was suddenly compelled to walk under the object and a beam of light descended on him from the bottom of the craft, and he was apparently brought up inside the beam. He found himself inside the object looking out a window at his courtyard. Two four-and-a-half-foot tall beings stood in the room with him. The beings were human-like except they had large heads and eyes.

They had long arms ending in hands with three digits. One of the beings communicated with the witness telling him that they had been watching him for three years and that they travel via inter-dimensional portals. A beam of green light hit the witness on his forehead and after that he only had vague memories of traveling to a moon-like planet and of seeing pyramids from above. He later found himself in his courtyard suffering from a terrible headache and feeling dizzy. (Sources: Lumieres dans la Nuit, issue 326; Albert S. Evening. Five young witnesses watched a large silvery sphere land in a field very close to them. Two human looking figures with blue eyes emerged from the sphere. They wore gray coveralls, and one figure was carrying something resembling a transparent cylindrical canister. That humanoid proceeded to walk around the object and collect various plant and soil samples, placing them inside the canister.

After awhile the humanoids re-entered the sphere, which then rose up silently and shot away at high speed. Ground traces were found. (Source: Albert S. Rosales, Humanoid Contact Database 1991, citing Ecol # 91, Denys Breysse Project Becassine).

UFO Incidents of The 1950’s;

#The 1952 Tremonton, Utah UFO Fleet#

This great case has a very rare film taken from the witness, as well a great film analysis from the USAF itself regarding an in-depth case study of the July 2nd, 1952 Tremonton, Utah UFO Fleet sighting by Navy Officer Delbert Clement Newhouse. The images in the film consist of the actual recorded video from 1952 showing what appears to be a ”fleet” (multiple UFOs usually in formation seen hovering for an extended period) sighting in Utah. The rest of the video consists of the actual interview, albeit rehearsed for documentation, of the witness Officer Newhouse and a Project Blue Book investigating officer.

It also shows an in-depth and commentated analysis of the film by USAF personal. The rest of the thread will provide a more detailed discussion and overview of the official government analysis, as well as my personal opinion on the case. This is yet another truly astonishing case in Ufology that many people do not know about and continues the saga of the “UFO Wave” from the late 1940’s to today. This film and case has been very briefly talked about on ATS and is not widely known among the general UFO interested public. It deserves much more considering the case.

1. Details of The Sighting and Important Facts

Another great case involving a seasoned military witness amps up the UFO phenomena even more in the early 1950’s. Technology was starting to boom at this time as a post war U.S. took over as the predominant superpower, and lucky for UFO researchers more technology means better and more imaging devices (i.e.; cameras). As willl be shown below, camcorders played a major part in documenting this case with nice video evidence. This case was among others included in the Robertson Panelgovernment scientific investigation committee), http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robertson_Panel a much more serious and prudent UFO brain trust and investigation formed to take UFO research by the government to the next level following a mass of major UFO sightings, one of which placed multiple UFOs directly over the nations capitol a couple weeks after this event.

#Details of The Sighting#

At 11:00AM on July 2nd, 1952, Delbert Newhouse was driving from Washington D.C. to Portland Oregon for vacation on US highway 30-south with his wife and two children(Delbert and Anne). Seven miles into Tremonton, Utah his wife, Norma, noticed a group of strange objects in the sky and the car was pulled over to investigate. Luckily Newhouse had a camcorder in his luggage for the vacation, he proceeded to get it, place the celluloid film inside, and film the unknown objects for around 40 seconds. Keep in mind this was a 21 year military (US Navy) veteran who was still on active duty, coincidently he was also a Chief Photographer.

He stated that he had never seen anything like this before and did not know what they were. By the time he got his Bell and Howell 16 mm camcorderhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B%C3%B6we_Bell_&_Howell out the objects had nearly made it to the horizon, Newhouse stopped filming once the objects were no longer visible to him. In addition to being a Chief Photographer Newhouse also had over 2,000 flying hours and stated that he had never seen anything resembling the “12 saucer shaped discs”. Their color and appearance was “silvery and metallic looking, like they were made of bright, polished metal”.

He stated that their pattern of flight was somewhat circular and their sized resembled a fleet of B-29’shttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B-29_Superfortress at 10,000 feet. Newhouse also said that the objects did not remain in formation at all times, with one object breaking off entirely and going off somewhere in the distance, in addition the objects made no sound or had any visible wake or exhaust. The weather was clear and sunny with excellent visibility. Newhouse stated that he was disappointed in the film compared to what he actually saw with his eyes.

Newhouse admitted to making the mistake of setting the focus on ‘infinity’ instead of “F-8” but he was understandably shaken and excited. Newhouse then contacted the USAF and Navy and sent in his film. Newhouse also stated that before, during, or after no planes, balloons, or birds appeared in the sky while he was there.

Newhouse Interview Transcript from above video here; http://www.nicap.org/utah2.htm

Most of these early (47-65) cases stayed ‘unknown’ until the mid sixties when a much broader cover-up began, as seen by the countless ludicrous explanations for these cases;

Important Information;
First let’s start with some information on the witness, Delbert Newhouse:
• Full name was Delbert Clement Newhouse
• Married with two children, a boy and a girl 12 and 14 years old
• 21 year veteran of the US Navy
• Official rank was Chief Warrant Officer
• Official job was Chief Photographer
• Over 2,000 hours filming and documenting US military air missions
• Graduated from the Naval Photographic School
• 39 years old at time of sighting

Now let’s look at sighting information and the analysis of the objects in the film:

• Time of sighting was 11AM MST
• Date of sighting was July 2nd, 1952
• Location was Tremonton, Utah on US highway 31- south
• Film was captured by a Bell and Howell 16mm video camera
• Lens was 3 inch
• Focus was infinity
• 16 frames per second
• Multiple lens filters were used; F8 and F16
• Film type was celluloid
• Estimated distance from observer was 5 miles
• Estimated size of objects based on that distance was between 16 and 98 feet
• The estimated velocity was anywhere between 378-3748 mph depending on actual distance of objects and compensation for shaky film. Most have settled on 665 mph for a mean speed. However that is still supersonic.
• Maximum acceleration computed at 21,168 mph/sec with G-Force at 965
• Minimum acceleration computed at 1,104 mph/sec with 50 g’s
• Maximum deceleration computed at 32,448 mph/sec with 1479 g’s
• Minimum deceleration computed at 272 mph/sec at 12 g’s
• It appears that the objects were self-illuminating
• Evidence of abrupt changes in flight path throughout film
• Certain objects appear to remain motionless while others move freely
• Objects have same color and shape
• Film was reprinted in 35mm by the USAF for better clarity and to avoid further degradation of the original
• Position of Sun at time of sighting was 64.5 degrees elevation and 131 degrees azimuth
• No balloons in the area
• No planes in the area

The Montana Footage;

In August of 1950 Nick Mariana captured film of two objects that appeared to be rotating discs in the sky over Great Falls, Montana. This film was surrounded in controversy as Mariana accused the USAF of keeping some of the film and not returning it. It was later discovered that the initial USAF Blue Book investigation contained false information regarding the film, it has been put forth that Mariana saw two fighter jets but that is still highly disputed to this day. The film was used as reference and comparison to the Newhouse film and contained many similarities that are definitely intriguing. The following are some links to more information:

I have seen the TR3B craft on 2 occasions. They are amazing! Especially when in cloaking mode. Unfortunately, they have gotten very good at making them appear to be planes in the sky as of late. Planes make noise though. If you don't know what I'm talking about, do some research on them. Fascinating stuff! No way we developed the technology for them without help imo. More likely indirect help, than direct help.

Follow on from last post;

2. Alternate Explanations and Conclusions

quotes;
"There was much research carried out by the USAF,(united states air force), and this was taken very seriously.The conclusions reached by the facts of the film analysis point to one of two things in my opinion. One is that this is actual video of objects of unknown technology, two is that this was a flock of birds that led to erroneous lab results from the lack of reference points, approximate distance, and modern film analysis technology. Chapter I will go over the alternate explanations that could be possible to discount the UFO theory, as well the official conclusions reached by Blue Book".

Alternate Explanations;
quote;
"There was put forth a variety of possible explanations to account for the fleet of objects filmed by Newhouse. Some put forth were pillow balloons, birds, insects, spider webs, “flying spiders”, reflected plane headlights, aircraft flares, temperature inversion, hoax, and more. None of those panned out with further research and logical conclusions, and in fact the only theory that even remotely fit was the “flock of seagulls theory”. We will go into that theory now".

The Bird Theory;
quotes;
"The film analysis was done by the USAF at Wright Field (home of Project Blue Book and Air Force Intelligence) and the Navy’s Anacostia film laboratory . More than 1,000 man hours went into the research of the Newhouse film with personal making graph plots of frames, relative and apparent motion calculations, and light intensity variation studies".

"Interestingly enough, Blue Book ruled the bird theory out first and concentrated on other things such as balloons or aircraft, the consensus that the objects seen in the film were not birds was almost completely unanimous. The final analysis by Blue Book came to the conclusion that the objects in the video were not birds for the following reasons":

• There is no flapping or fluttering in any of the detailed analysis of the film. If the objects were birds, even at 10,000 feet you would still be able to see the characteristic ‘wing flapping’, which was not seen at all.

• It was also the opinion of the experts that the objects were self-luminous because there was no blinking while passing through 60 degrees of arc. This means that what Newhouse saw could not have possibly been birds because birds are not self-luminous !

Official Conclusions;
quotes;
"Those documents pretty much dismiss any alternate explanations in any likely probability. So if the objects were not spiders, chaff, planes, or birds what were they? When one takes into account the velocity and acceleration calculations as well, it appears that whatever these objects were that they are still not currently known to exist by anyone, lest maybe a few privy government officials."

"In the same year of the sighting, due to a continuing influx of sightings (especially the “DC Flap”) a special panel, called the Robertson Panel, made up of qualified scientists led by Dr. H.P. Robertson was set up by the CIA to further investigate the UFO phenomena before Blue Book made a more public final conclusion of their research on the events they had investigated. Blue Book presented its best cases, including this one to the panel for review. The panel’s main goal was to ‘debunk’ all UFO reports in the “interest of national security” as they felt the “hysteria” of public reports wasting the military’s time was distracting the main purpose of the military".

"They concluded that the majority of cases could be explained by mundane explanations and the remaining minority could too with further study. Well the Robertson Panel, which was heavily infused with CIA officials and world renowned professional skeptics like Donald Menzel, Dr. Condon, and many others came to another conclusion; They said that the objects were “very obviously a flock of birds” and closed the case".

"The astronomer of the group, Dr. Donald Menzel found that a incorrect procedure was used by the Navy in their use of the Densitometer. He said the tests should be redone, they never were and it is not known if the errors would have made a difference anyways. Another member, Dr. Thornton Page said that he thought the film showed a flock of seagulls. "

"His only argument was that they look like “seagulls he had seen where he lives”. He and other members ignored the other evidence of the case, such as Newhouse’s testimony of seeing the objects closer and in much more detail before he got the film out, as well the two in-depth analysis run on the film."

"They offered no acceptable rebuttal evidence to the official Blue Book conclusion and even the famous skeptic Dr. Condon did not agree with the panel’s final explanation, which judging by their lack of counter evidence to the facts of the case it seems that they wanted to pretty much attribute the sighting to a flock of supersonic, glowing seagulls! Here are some further reasons given by the Panel to why they felt it was birds, this of course in addition to them saying that “they could not accept the conclusions reached by Blue Book and the Navy “:

a. A semi-spherical object can readily produce a reflection of sunlight without ‘blinking’ through 60” of arc travel.

b. Although no data was available on the “albedo” of birds or polyethylene balloons in bright sunlight, the apparent motions, sizes and brightnesses of the objects were considered strongly to suggest birds, particularly after the Panel viewed a short film showing high reflectivity of seagulls in bright sunlight.

c. P.I.L. description of the objects sighted as “ circular, bluish-white” in color would be expected in cases of specular reflections of sunlight from convex surfaces where the brilliance of the reflection would obscure other portions of the object.

(Chapter 11, Durant report of the Robertson Panel Proceedings)
http://www.cufon.org/cufon/robert.htm
quotes;
"Obviously it appears that the Panel disregarded all evidence and twisted and distorted the facts to fit their purpose, which was debunking. In fact it is widely believed that the reason for the stigma on Ufology is directly related to the Robertson Panel placing a bad tag on UFOs, this has also been stated by some of the members themselves. The following excerpt is an example of how the Robertson Panel disregarded the evidence in reaching their quick decision":

"The report of Photogrammetric analysis by Dr. Robert M.L. Baker, Jr., Douglas Aircraft Corporation (which included a study of the 1950 Montana film) examined the possibility of seagulls. He states: "The motion of the objects is not exactly what one would expect from a flock of soaring birds (not the slightest indication of a decrease in brightness due to periodic turning with the wind or flapping)." Dr. Baker reports that no definite conclusion could be reached, but "the evidence remains rather contradictory and no single hypothesis of a natural phenomenon yet suggested seems to completely account for the UFO involved."

The 1952 Tremonton, Utah UFO Flee;

quote;
"Now the Condon Report, which devoted nine pages to this sighting, stated that to come to the conclusion that Menzel did about the film being of “seagulls because it was such poor quality is erroneous.” Yea, I would say so myself! The report also stated that the objects are “a light source rather then a reflected light” (Condon Report, P.423) and that no known bird could be responsible for the ‘glow’ of the objects."

"Also the speeds at which the objects were moving is supersonic, thus ruling out a bird, unless of course we are talking about “Rodan”! So it appears that the Robertson Panel was the only entity to come to the “bird conclusion”, regardless the contrary evidence. One more point I want to make is that if the film was simply birds and the Robertson Panel stated that the public should be made aware of all research and evidence then why did this happen:"

quote;
"In April 1954, the Cleveland Press, a Scripps-Howard paper, was asking authorities at ATIC for permission to see the Tremonton, Utah film, because there were other numerous consecutive sightings by US Marines that created UFO interest in the press again at this time. The Pentagon dragged its feet, but finally agreed to let a journalist see it at Dayton."

" By the time the reporter was ready to make the trip, ATIC told him that their only copy had just burned up. No worry, said ATIC, as there was a master copy at the Pentagon. When the reporter spoke with an Air Force spokesman at the Pentagon, he was told, "we have no copy here, but we believe there is one at Dayton." The reporter gave up. The Press ran a January 6 headline, "Brass Curtain Hides Flying Saucers."

"The head of Project Blue Book, Captain Edward J. Ruppelt quit after this event for reasons I think could be considered Ruppelt’s fatigue with the government sidestepping of the public. The departure of Ruppelt from Blue Book was the main transition from the actual pursuit of truth from the USAF to a full scale cover-up in many others"

3. Conclusions

The shear amount of professional government analysis of the evidence in this case makes the Tremonton sighting one of the most analyzed cases in Ufology. Not only was the witness in this case incredibly credible but actually managed to take film of the sighting. Judging from the lack of any decent alternate explanation from the top three cases of the previous decade (which did not have any film or pictures) it is obvious why this case was taken to a much higher level of review since there was actual footage involved and not just witness testimony and radar contacts.

Because of the footage it was not so easy to sweep this under the rug and attach a “psychological, misidentification, or astronomical” explanation to this case, it demanded answers and detailed research to find those answers. Every single mundane explanation that was put forth was dismissed by the evidence but yet after review the Robertson Panel still managed to call this a sighting nothing but a flock of birds, was a simply quick and mundane tag to place on this case to squash it quickly.

Because of the large amount of documented analysis of the footage in this case there is a lot of documentation available for research. If one simply reads what is laid out there is no way the official explanation is valid. The evidence speaks for itself in this one, but yet many still choose to believe the official government story because it is ‘official’.

In conclusion of this film the footage is of a true UFO, or unidentified flying object. I further that what Delbert Newhouse filmed was spacecraft controlled by intelligent beings from another planet. Came to this conclusion by simply following the USAF and Navy’s analysis.

The official explanation by the Robertson Panel is invalid for many reasons in the main one being that the entire purpose of the panel was to debunk all of the top Blue Book cases, they had no interest in analyzing the cases, even there own members and Blue Book personal said that. When you spend less than 12 hours total and look over only 23 out of 2,300 plus top cases and come to the conclusion they did, in the face of all evidence, one simply can not take their conclusion seriously.

Is it possible that the objects remained unidentified do to the primitive analysis of the early 1950’s? Sure, but keep in mind that the mathematical calculations of velocity, luminosity, and acceleration was some of the strongest evidence in this case and math is still the same today as it was then. Is there still a possibility that modern film analysis methods could prove one way or another? Probably so, but unfortunately the original film is under lock and key at the Pentagon, so this is not possible.

It is the cases like this one that truly make Ufology and that need to be presented to as many people as possible so that people can see this is a serious issue with heavy and legitimate documentation and research.

Pilot Reports / Eyewitness Testimony:

"This thing had to be going double-digit mach making turns that I didn't think were possible, breaking all the rules of physics,
The man that visited me later told me in no uncertain terms to keep quiet. He told me I would lose my pilot's license and it would be the end of my flying days, so for 30 years I've said nothing"
Retired Air Force pilot Milton Torres discussing his F-86D Sabre fighter jet UFO incident in 1957 in which he was ordered to shoot down a UFO hovering over the British countryside.
Air Force Times Interview, Oct 22nd, 2008.

"An object 'like an oblong pearl' drew steadily closer until perhaps a mile away when, right under my gaze as it were, it suddenly vanished. . . .But it reappeared close to where it had vanished. . . .It drew closer. I could see the dull gleam of light on nose and back. It came on, but instead of increasing in size, it diminished as it approached! When quite near, it suddenly became its own ghost. For one second I could see clear through it and the next. . .it had vanished."
Sir Francis Chichester -June 10, 1931 ,Flying in the Gypsy Moth over the Tasman Sea.

"It is impossible for any man-made machine to make a sudden appearance in front of a jumbo jet that is flying 910 kilometers per hour and to remain in steady formation paralleling our aircraft. ... Honestly, we were simply breathtaken."
Japan Airlines pilot Kenju Terauchi in 1986

"Headquarters wouldn't let us go after it and we played around a little bit. We got to watching how it made 90 degree turns at this high speed and everything. We knew it wasn't a missile of any type, so then we confirmed it with the radar control station, and they kept following it, and then it crashed somewhere off between Texas and the Mexico border."
Colonel Robert Willingham, USAF from an Sworn Affidavit in the 1970's when discussing a sighting of a UFO whilst he was navigating an F94 jet on September 6th 1950.

"It appears to be a metallic object...tremendous in size, directly ahead and slightly above.I am trying to close for a better look."
Captain Thomas Mantell, USAF,1948. Last words.

"From their maneuvers and their terrific speed I am certain their flight performance was greater than any aircraft known today".
Colonel Carl Sanderson
USAF, commenting on his sighting of two circular silver UFOs in close proximity to his plane over Hermanas, New Mexico. The UFOs were said to make a series of seemingly impossible maneuvers before disappearing at an astonishing speed and showing up again over El Paso, Texas.

"We had many adventures flying under primitive conditions in the frozen north, but none compared with this." "I looked back and saw something that didn't make sense," "It was nothing like flying machines of that period," "It was hexagonal, flat, and seemingly made of aluminum or some other metal, with no breaks in the surface and no rivets." "At the time, I had a spooky feeling. I can't explain it. It was as if I 'felt' the presence of whoever was inside that craft--and the feeling was hostile."
Lieutenant Colonel Peter Grunnet-Royal Danish Air force, describing incident in H. E. 8 seaplane over Greenland,1932.

"I don't know whether this story has ever been told or not. They weren't called UFOs. They were called enemy helicopters. And they were only seen at night and they were only seen in certain places. They were seen up around the DMZ in the early summer of '68. And this resulted in quite a little battle. And in the course of this, an Australian destroyer took a hit and we never found any enemy, we only found ourselves when this had all been sorted out. And this caused some shooting there, and there was no enemy at all involved but we always reacted. Always after dark. The same thing happened up at Pleiku at the Highlands in '69."
USAF Chief of Staff General George S. Brown
DoD Transcript of Press Conference in Illinois (10/16/1973).

"Based on my experience in fighter tactics, it is my opinion that the object was controlled by something having visual contact with us. The power and acceleration were beyond the capability of any known U.S. aircraft".
F-94 pilot, after encountering a UFO, 1952.

"As we approached this glow it turned to a monstrous circle of white lights on the water. Then we saw a yellow halo, small, much smaller than whatever it was launched from, about 15 miles away. As the UFO approached my plane and flew alongside it, we could see the domed craft which had a corona discharge."
Commander Graham Bethune, U.S. Navy -sighting from military flying from Iceland to Newfoundland,February 10, 1951.

"Pilot of helicopters wished to stress fact that object was of a saucer like nature, was stationary at 2000 ft. And would be glad to be called upon to verify any statements and act as witness".
Emergency Report from Maxwell Air Force Base on air space violation by UFO, 1954.

"It was made and flown by intelligent beings."
Major Shiro Kubuta, of Japan's Air Self-Defence Force (I think). Kubuta and his pilot, Lt. Colonel Toshio Nakamura, were scrambled in an F-4EJ to intercept what they were told was a Soviet Bomber.Once Airborne they were informed that their target was actually a UFO which had been sighted by ground and was being tracked on radar.
When they closed upon the red, disk-like UFO, it began to manoeuvre around the plane, causing Nakamura to take evasive action.

"[Object] described as flat on top and bottom and appearing from a front view to have round edges and slightly beveled ... No vapor trails or exhaust or visible means of propulsion. Described as traveling at tremendous speed.... Pilot considered by associates to be highly reliable, of mature judgment and a creditable observer".
Air Force intelligence report, following UFO sighting by F-51 pilot, 1951

"There was something definite in the sky...If it had proved to be hostile we would have destroyed it."
Major Gerald Smith, USAF--One of the F-106 pilots scrambled under orders from NORAD (North American Air Defense Command) to investigate a UFO over West Palm Beach, Florida on September 14, 1972. The UFO was viewed through binoculars by the FAA supervisor, George Morales, sighted by an Eastern Airlines captain, police and several civilians, as well.

"Suddenly, the lights went out. There appeared a yellow halo on the water. It turned to an orange, to a fiery red, and then started movement toward us at a fantastic speed, turning to a bluish red around the perimeter. Due to its high speed, its direction of travel, and its size, it looked as though we were going to be engulfed.

It stopped its movement toward us and began moving along with us about 45 degrees off the bow to the right, about 100 feet or so below us and about 200 to 300 feet in front of us. It was not in a level position; it was tilted about 25 degrees.

It stayed in this position for a minute or so. It appeared to be from 200 to 300 feet in diameter, translucent or metallic, shaped like a saucer, a purple-red fiery ring around the perimeter and a frosted white glow around the entire object. The purple-red glow around the perimeter was the same type of glow you get around the commutator of an auto generator when you observe it at night.
Captain of Navy R5D aircraft,February 8,1951.

"I was the pilot of the plane when we saw the UFO. Also on board were Governor Reagan and a couple of his security people. We were flying a Cessna Citation. It was maybe 9 or 10 o'clock at night. We were near Bakersfield, California when Governor Reagan and the others called my attention to a big light flying a bit behind my plane. It appeared to be several hundred yards away. It was a fairly steady light until it began to accelerate, then it appeared to elongate.

Then the light took off. It went up at a 45-degree angle-at a high rate of speed. Everyone on the plane was surprised. Governor Reagan expressed amazement. I told the others I didn't know what it was...The UFO went from a normal cruise speed to a fantastic speed instantly...If you give an airplane power it will accelerate-but not like a hot rod, and that's what this was like"
Bull Paynter, a pilot with thousands of logged hours, in Sacremento California

Master Sergeant witnesses multiple UFOs over the Arctic:

UFO incident over the Baltic Sea, November 1970.

Pilot Testimony

"I saw three bright glowing objects flying in a triangular formation. Our mission aircraft at the time was doing approximately four hundred fifty or five hundred knots, and these appeared to be closing extremely rapidly on a parallel course to the aircraft.

They appeared as round, glowing red fireballs. The nearest thing I can describe to it is an old fashioned cook stove lid that's been overheated and is just glowing red, or like something you'd see on an anvil in a blacksmith's shop, the glowing red of metal.

The one thing that astounded me was the colossal speed. Even after compensating for our forward direction and they were moving in the opposite direction paralleling the aircraft, they would appear on the horizon and had swept across my complete range of vision from the front of the aircraft to the rear and going over the horizon towards the Arctic regions, it was just a matter of two or three seconds.

And just as I was sitting there open-mouthed astonished watching this phenomenon flash by, there on the horizon appeared three more identical objects, and I watched no less than five or six groups of these things appear suddenly on the horizon at great speed, pass the aircraft and disappear in the Arctic regions to the rear of the aircraft.
It was just incredible. I have never seen anything move like that in my life".

George Lynn Guthrie -Master Sergeant/Crew chief of Airbourne Intelligence Crew/Russian Voice Intercept Processing Supervisor for the Air Force Security Service Command -

Former Air Force Commander discusses multiple radar/visual UFO travelling at 'unimaginable' speeds:

Hernan Gabrielli (General-Ret.): We were two F-5s, dual training craft, and we were returning to base after completing our mission, Cerro Moreno, noon. From Mejillones to Antofagasta, at an altitude of some 35,000 feet - 40,000 feet. I suddenly detected a radar fault and saw a line that ran side to side on the scope, and my student, Danilo Catalán, also detected the same, and curiously enough it was the ground radar, which has a large screen, that also indicated a radar fault. At that time we looked toward [the part of the sky indicated on the radar screen] and we saw that UFO.

Alejandro Guillier: What was it exactly? What was it you managed to see? Can it be described?

Hernan Gabrielli: It was visualized as a smoke-covered, half-deformed banana, very large, in other words, very large in plain sight. We were between 15 or 20 miles away. It was tremendously large and surrounded by a fumarole which moved in our very same direction and at the same speed as our aircraft.

Alejandro Guiller: ...and you felt tempted to check it out.

Hernan Gabrielli: We approached it carefully and...but those were good instructions. We were heading back from Attack 1, which is a combat tactic involving gun cameras, no cannon, missiles or anything else. So we approached it with caution. Unfortunately the UFO did not go away toward a single minute, so we arrived in an instant.

Alejandro Guillier: But I understand that you had to ascend.

Hernan Gabrielli: No...

Alejandro Guillier: In order to approach, what was your position? Going upward..

Hernan Gabrielli: No...we shared the same altitude, between 30,000 and 35,000 feet.

Alejandro Gabrielli: But F-5s are swift airplanes. When you got near it scurried way so...

Hernan Gabrielli: Of course. It’s a fighter that covers 10 nautical miles a minute, in other words, 20 kilometers a minute. That is the normal speed for that aircraft.

Alejandro Guillier: And this object you saw, how soon did it vanish? At what speed?

Hernan Gabrielli: Unimaginable, in other words, thousands of nautical miles a minute, because it vanished toward the west suddenly and the screen cleared up. In other words, all three radar screens--the ground radar, mine and Danilo’s -- were operating normally; it wasn’t just a visual experience but a physical one as well, a material one, that materialized on the screen. Now, if you ask me what it is, where it comes from, don’t ask me. I haven’t the slightest idea.

What the pilots have seen.

This chart lists over 100 UFO sightings by pilots (AL=Airline pilot; M=Military; P=Private), the majority of whom reported typical geometrical objects such as discs and ellipses. The resulting patterns of the observations, and their strong similarity to reports by other reliable witnesses are readily apparent.

Pilot transcript of flight N3808H, Puerto Rico, 1980;

Last words of Jose Pagan Santos:

Location. Mona Channel, Caribbean Ocean near Puerto Rico;

Date: June 28 1980;

At 1810 Jose Antonio Maldonado Torres and his friend, Jose Pagan Santos, took off from Las Americas International Airport in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic in an Ercoupe aircraft marked N3808H.
The Ercoupe was owned by Santo’s father Jose Pagan Jimenez, an Aero
Police officer in Puerto Rico. They were bound for home in Puerto Rico.

At 2003 the Las Mesas radar site and several aircraft picked up radio transmissions from N3808H:

“Mayday, Mayday, Ercoupe ocho cero, eight zero, zero, Hotel. We can see a strange object in our course, we are lost, Mayday, Mayday.”

An Iberia Airlines flight IB-976 en route from Santo Domingo to Spain responded to the Mayday and received a reply:

“Ah we are going from Santo Domingo to ah San Juan International but we found ah a weird object in our course that made us change course about three different times we got it right in front of us now at one o’clock, our heading is zero seven zero degrees…our altitude one thousand six hundred a zero seven zero degrees…our VORs got lost off frequency…”

Iberia Flight IB-976 then relayed a message from San Juan Center asking N3808H to turn on their transponder.
N3808H replied that the Ercoupe was not equipped with a transponder. At 2006 Iberia IB-976 asked for their call sing and estimated position and received this reply:

“Right now we are supposed to be a about thirty five miles from the coast of Puerto Rico but we have something weird in front of us that make us lose course all the time I changed our course a second (unintelligible) our present heading right now is three hundred we are right again in the same stuff sir.”

They were not heard from again. At 2012 the Atlantic Fleet Weapons Range verified the last radar position of N3808H as thirty five miles west of Puerto Rico. A search that included Santos’s father was then mounted which centered on this last radar position. It was discontinued after two days when no trace had been found. No trace was ever found.

ON DUTY SIGHTINGS Reported by British Police Officers; (1901-1972);

"There are some definite flight type characteristics that are seen now that I would say represent genuine UFOs...ie: instant acceleration; instant stop; vertical acceleration -up into the air and down to the ground; reverses in direction; right angle turns -all in silence -multiple objects sometimes separating and then going back into each other.

They are classic,what I would call,genuine UFO characteristics -things that we can not do in a conventional sense".
British Detective Police Constable Gary Heseltine - Police UFO reporting organisation,

1901;

21/12/1901. 0045 hours. Location: Haworth, West Yorkshire. As two uniformed police officers, PS JOHN JOHNSON and PC CLARK were walking along a snow covered beat in Haworth when suddenly a green light illuminated the surrounding area. The officers looked up to the sky to see a luminous UFO shaped like a cigar pointed at both ends. The object emitted occasional flashes and sparks.

They watched the object for 15 minutes as it slowly and silently moved across the night sky before disappearing into the distance. PS JOHNSON stated that the object was seen at an altitude of 100-150 feet before gradually gaining height. Two members of the public reported seeing similar objects in Keighley and Shipley respectively. UFO CLASSIFICATION – CE1 (CLOSE ENCOUNTER 1ST KIND). On duty sighting. 2 Officers. 1950;

Monday. 02/11/50. Location – Gowerton, Wales. Following a report by a member of the public of two lights traveling across the sky, DETECTIVE SERGEANT AMBROSE DAVIES, of Gowerton Police station observed a single white ball of flame. It was much brighter than any star and after a few seconds was seen to break into two pieces. A shower of reddish sparks were seen to the rear of the objects. The officer ruled out planets and meteors stating that there were definitely two objects in the sky and that they were joined by some kind of tether. UFO CLASSIFICATION – NL (NOCTURNAL LIGHT)

1952;

2115 Hours. Location - Leek, Staffordshire. A police officer on plain clothes observations and two passing civilians saw a UFO literally above their heads at the recreation ground, Burton Street, Leek, Staffordshire. The object was seen for approx 2-3 minutes at an alt of 500 feet. They described it as orange in colour prior to the object changing shape from sphere to cigar by which time it was blue. Eventually the object accelerated away at a fantastic speed in a northerly direction.

Throughout duration of the sighting the UFO made no noise whatsoever. It was a clear cold night, no wind and the stars were visible. The sighting was reported by the officer but he was told by his Superintendent to ‘keep his mouth shut’. The sighting was released to the press.

1963;

July. Location - Charlton near Shaftesbury, Wiltshire. An on duty uniformed police officer, PC ANTHONY PENNY reported seeing an orange coloured UFO flash across the sky in the above location and disappear over a potato field where days later a large spherical crater measuring eight feet was found. The crater appeared from nowhere in the field and within its centre was a hole three feet deep, 5-12 inches in diameter. Radiating from the centre of the hole were four slot marks, four feet long and one foot wide.

No cause could be found for the appearance of the crater or the marks found within it. The crater was investigated by a Bomb Disposal Unit but no satisfactory explanation was ever found for it. The mystery was even mentioned in parliament on 29th July by Major Patrick Wall, Conservative MP for Haltemprice.

1500 hours. 30/11/65. Location – Warminster, Wiltshire. An on duty uniformed police officer, PC ERIC PINNOCK was on foot patrol of the Bishopstrow area of the town when he observed a large bright silver ball shaped UFO hurtle through the sky before it disappeared over Sutton Common. He said, “It was a giant plate of light. It lit up the whole horizon with a glare”. It was flying low over the landscape and appeared to be spinning. During the mid sixties Warminster was a haven for UFO spotters and there were literally hundreds of sightings made in that area.

1954 hours. Thursday 16/12/65. Location - Chineham, Basingstoke, Hampshire. An on duty uniformed police officer, PC J HARWOOD was speaking with a member of the public outside the man’s home when they both observed a tadpole shaped UFO with a large green dome on top and a flaming red tail that was two or three times the length of the dome pass by overhead. It was seen only briefly as it sped across the sky from south to north at an incredible speed. The object was estimated to have been four to six feet in length. PC HARWOOD said, “The colour attracted me - green. This may have been caused by low clouds. I have never seen anything like it before”. The member of the public, Basil Gibbons (aged 67), likened the object to a Gemini space capsule.

An on duty uniformed officer, PC COLIN PERKS was on foot patrol on Alderley Road in the above town when he saw a UFO moving across the sky at an altitude of only 30 feet and that it was only 100 yards from him. He described it as being 30 feet in diameter and as bulky as a double decker bus. He said, “There was an eerie, greenish-grey glow in the sky.

Then I picked out an object about thirty feet long and built up in three sections with the top looking like a dustbin lid. It gave off a high pitched whine. I was paralysed. I just couldn’t believe it.” The duration of the sighting was five minutes before it disappeared. His police report was forwarded to the MOD who did visit him to investigate his story. There is an object in the sky to the west and remaining still. It keeps flashing red, white and blue lights and dropping flares. There’s no sound of an engine and it does not appear to be an aircraft.” Enquiries with Eastleigh Airport proved negative as did those with Southampton University Air Squadron. Calls to the Southern Meteorological Centre also proved fruitless. Eventually the UFO disappeared at high speed in the direction of Eastleigh.

0400 hours. 24/10/67. Location - A3072 between Okehampton and Holsworthy, Devon. Two on duty uniformed police officers, PC CLIFFORD WAYCOTT and PC ROGER WILLEY had spotted a pulsating flying cross whilst driving between the above locations. It was seen at low altitude moving above the treetops of the surrounding countryside. Intrigued they began to chase the UFO, however they were never able to significantly gain on it. At times the object slowed to 50 mph and at one point came to a stop in mid air.

The pursuit involved speeds of up to 90 mph and covered a distance of 14 miles. Whenever they did gain a little ground on the object it would simply accelerate away from them. Eventually they reduced their speed fearing an accident themselves. The closest distance they reached to the UFO was 400 yards. At one point they stopped at a farm to wake up the owner so they could gain some corroboration that they were not mistaken in their sighting. At a later press conference PC WAYCOTT said, “The light wasn’t piercing but it was very bright.

It was star-spangled - just like looking through wet glass and although we reached 90 mph it accelerated away from us.” Before the object disappeared from view they saw a second UFO that was also cross-shaped, very bright and made no noise. Both officers were impressed by the relevant speeds of the objects as they quickly departed, especially the first one. Enquiries at nearby RAF Chivenor proved negative.

Within 48 hours numerous other witnesses began to report sightings of similar objects. A ‘fiery cross’ was witnessed above the skies of Glossop, Derbyshire by six police officers.

OFF DUTY SIGHTINGS;

2010

01/01/2010. 0010 hours. Cononley, North Yorkshire. An off duty North Yorkshire police officer was at home near Cononley looking at New Year fireworks when a bright orange light moving from the direction of Keighley toward Cononley caught his attention. He described the object as the shape of a squashed ball. As the object reached the Cononley area he suddenly observed the UFO turn left towards Cowling and the Lancashire border. It then began to rise steadily into the sky and out of sight. He then noticed a second orange light which followed an exact path as the other including a definite turn.

Then he saw two more orange objects stacked directly above each and once again the same manoeuvre was completed. The total duration of the event was three to more four minutes. He completely ruled out the possibility of the lights being Chinese lanterns. The objects moved in total silence at a speed described as like an aircraft. Off Duty sighting. 1 officer. Source – PRUFOS Police Database. Classification – Nocturnal Light (NL).

2009

01/01/2009. 0005 hours. Cardiff, South Wales. An off duty uniformed police officer and his wife observed an orange light as it passed silently over the skies of Cardiff in silence at an altitude of 5000 feet. The object was seen for approximately 10 seconds before it disappeared from view. Then a second object was seen for several seconds before it too disappeared however this object came from a different part of the night sky. Then a third light was seen moving from east to west.

Again a 10 second duration before vanishing. Significantly this object was considerably larger than the first two. He later mentioned the sighting to other police colleagues who put forward the idea of Chinese lanterns but the officer ruled that out stating that all three objects were seen moving in different directions in the sky with flight characteristics completed different to floating lanterns. Note the officer had previously served in the RAF and was very familiar with aircraft. Off duty sighting. 1 officer. Source – PRUFOS Police Database. Classification – Nocturnal Light (NL).

CIA Document referring to this RAF 'flying disc' incident over Yorkshire, England,1952:

September 19
A British Meteor jet aircraft was returning to the airfield at Topcliffe, Yorkshire, England, just before 11 A. M. As it approached for landing, a silvery object was observed following it, swaying back and forth like a pendulum. Lieutenant John W. Kilburn and other observers on the ground said that when the Meteor began circling, the UFO stopped. It was disk-shaped, and rotated on its axis while hovering. The disk suddenly took off westward at high speed, changed course, and disappeared to the southeast.

Document:

"In some RAF field, there was some sort of demonstration to which high officials of the RAF in London had been invited. During the show, a 'perfect flying saucer' was seen by these officials as well as RAF pilots. So many people saw it that many articles appeared in the public press. This is distressing to [Dr] Jones because he realises that the creation of the correction of public opinion is a part of his responsibilities."

UFO-Aircraft Encounters: The BOAC Stratocruiser Incident and The “B-29 Gulf of Mexico Incident”

Courtesy: http://www.ufocasebook.com/

These two cases took place in 1950’s, the same decade that a major wave was happening, with great documented cases like the D.C. Flap, The Tremonton Fleet, The Mariana Film, Lakenheath-Bentwaters, Edwards AFB Sighting, and The Lubbock Lights among the tops. Both of these cases consist of radar/visual reports of an aircraft-UFO encounter, both of these cases are classified in the Blue Book Unknowns. http://www.nicap.org/bluebook/bluelist.htmThe following cases are presented in chronological order.

Chapter Summary
1. The B-29 Incident Over The Gulf
2. The BOAC Stratocruiser Incident
3. My Conclusions of Both Cases

1. The B-29 Incident Over The Gulf

Courtesy:nicap.org
Hynek Classification: CE1,R/V

In the early morning hours on December 6th, 1952 during a training mission over the Gulf of Mexico, the crew of a B-29 Superfortress , cruising at 18,000 feet, made radar and visual contact with multiple UFOs. The crew was returning to Florida from a night practice flight and was about 100 miles south of the Louisiana coast under clear weather and bright moonlight very early in the morning. At around 5:25 AM Lieutenant Sid Coleman checked his radar scope to see if he could see the coast line. What he saw was a URE (Unknown Radar Echo) at the edge of the screen, that in the next sweep had gone 13 miles in that brief pause between the sweeps. Another URE appeared on the screen and appeared to be heading right for the B-29 at 5,240(by manual calculations) mph! This is only the first incident in the case, I will cover the rest below, but first let’s go over some details of the crew.

Important Details
The Crew:
• 1st LT. Norman Karas-Visual Observation
• 1st LT. WM Naumann Jr- Instrument Navigation
• Master Sgt. B.R. Percell-Assistant Radar Operator
• Staff Sgt. WM J Derouse-Gunner
• 2nd LT. Robert J Eckert-Navigation
• Staff Sgt. HD Shogren-Radar Operator
• Captain John Harter-Flight Commander
• Lieutenant Sidney Coleman-Radar Operator
• Master Sergeant Bailey Percell- Assistant Radar Operator
• Staff Sgt. Ferris-Assistant Radar Operator
• Crew had several hundred hours of flying time and experience combined between them.

Weather, Radar, and Location Information

• Weather was clear and windless with a temperature of 10 degrees Celsius.
• All oil refineries were spotted and accounted for as well.
• There were 25 hits in ten minutes.
• UREs seen on multiple scopes by three different personal.
• Radar was working properly according to crew.
• Location was around 100 miles south of Louisiana and 190 miles east of Galveston, Texas.
• All UREs (also called UFOs in this case because of the visuals) were at around the same altitude as the plane, which was 18,000 feet.

Map Showing Location of Encounter

The Rest of The Sightings

"Initial contact was made at about 5:25 AM on December 6th, 1952, 100 miles south of the Louisiana coastline. The initial URE contacts (which were three) were clocked at speeds of around 5,000 mph. The following is the summary of the remainder of the incidents as initially recorded by Major Donald Keyhole and subsequently NICAP:

"When LT. Coleman alerted his Captain of the speed of the URE the Captain did not believe him stating “that’s impossible, recalibrate your scope!”---the speed was the same as before. After the initial contacts were recorded the action picked up immensely , with the next set of contacts coming just as Coleman was rechecking the calculations when Master Sgt. Bailey spotted another two UREs. Lieutenant Eckert, the navigator spotted the two more UREs as well. At this time the UFOs were on all three scopes, which were recalibrated to show no malfunctions. As an unknown URE was spotted on radar at “3 o’clock” Master Sgt. Bailey Percell witnessed a “white-blue” object streak by in a blur under the bombers right wing”.

"At this time three more UREs appeared on the radar screens at an apparent speed of over 5,000 mph (Around Mach 7) on a bearing dead ahead (12 o’clock). The three UFOs veered to miss the bomber by “some miles”. There now was a brief pause of activity 6 minutes into the incident that lasted only briefly as another group of UREs appeared on the scopes at the same speed as before."

"At the 4 o’clock position two more UFOs of the same “white-blue color” streaked by the aircraft, this was seen visually by Staff Sgt. Ferris. Forty miles behind the B-29 5 more UREs appeared (which actually were observed on radar to “swerve” into the path f the aircraft) and were calculated to be there in three seconds(48,000 mph or around Mach 47)."

"But then the UREs slowed down to match the bombers speed almost instantly! That is a deceleration from Mach 47 to match the subsonic speed of the B-29 (cruise speed around 220 mph)near instantly! The UFOs kept pace with the aircraft for around 10 seconds then quickly picked up speed and merged to one side. They then proceeded to merge into one object (on the radar scope) and zoom off at around 9,000 mph. Coleman alerted the Captain":

"Captain, did you see that?"

"Yes-I saw it," said Harter.

"We clocked it," said Coleman. "You won't believe this-it was making over 9,000 miles an hour!"

"I believe it, all right," Harter said grimly. "That's just what I figured."

Alternate Explanations and Official Conclusions;

"When the crew landed they were immediately questioned by intelligence officers with the USAF(They had radioed ahead and alerted the ground of their incident). Here are some statements, all courtesy of http://www.nicap.org/gulfc.htm

"Captain Harter: "One group of blips was noted, after the set was calibrated, to arc about and swing in behind us at about 30 miles, and maintain speed and distance for approximately ten seconds . . Contact was broken off at 0535, after a group of the blips merged into a one half-inch arc and proceeded across the scope and off it at a computed speed of over 9,000 m.p.h."

Lieutenant Coleman: "I noticed one UFO approach our aircraft at a terrific rate of speed. I timed it as best I could with a stop-watch over a known distance and the flight engineer computed the speed at 5,240m.p.h. I alerted the entire crew to look for the objects visually, and flashes of light were noted. The closest the objects came was approximately 20 miles. I saw about 20 objects in all. I recalibrated the set and there was no change.

"The objects were small and possibly round, with the exception of one very large return shaped as follows, one- half-inch curved arc. I also noticed a large return come up to within 40 miles of our tail from behind and then disappear. To the best of my knowledge, I believe that this object was real and moved at an extremely high speed and was not a set malfunction or optical illusion."

Master Sergeant Bailey: "The radar operator clocked the object [the first one seen] and I computed the air speed of the object to average 5,240 m.p.h. Twice during the period, the radar operator reported an object to be passing at 3 o'clock. Upon looking out the window, I saw a blue-white streak travel front to rear and disappear under the wing."

Staff Sergeant Ferris: "After the radar operator reported objects approaching at 4 o'clock, I immediately looked in that position and saw two flashes of a blue-white nature for approximately three seconds."

Listed in the Blue Book Unknowns file. http://www.nicap.org/bluebook/bluelist.htm The leading candidates are a meteor shower and mirage, but that is it. We will look at those;

"Meteors: Blue Book only put forth this theory in the middle of the investigation because the Geminid Meteor Showers";
here;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geminids
"were taking place at this time. But it was never taken as an acceptable answer for the case for many reasons that are obvious, such as the intelligent maneuvers (slowing down and speeding up, merging into one object)".

quotes;
• "Mirage: If one is to speculate that a mirage of either an oil refinery, star, or meteor could account for the visual sightings then one must also account for the radar contacts. This by itself seems impossible by any probable stretch".

•"Meteor/Mirage Combination: More likely then either of the first two by themselves. This theory was never put forth by anyone to my knowledge until now. Theoretically it is possible that the visual sightings could have been caused by a mirage of a higher meteor or a meteor making it into the lower atmosphere . The radar hits could have been caused by echoes off of meteors making it to the lower atmosphere as well. But this scenario is highly unlikely as any astronomer would tell you".

Official Conclusions;
quotes;
"There have been no skeptical organization (such as the Condon Committee) to offer comments about this case Actually the only statement other than Blue Books came from a NASA scientist who became their “unofficial UFO investigator”, Paul R. Hill, who had the following to say on the case":

"Several changes of course were made, and two phases of acceleration were performed. Speeds of 5.000 to 9.000 miles per hour with maneuvers and motionless capability exclude any meteor whatsoever as it is too slow, and exclude any known human flying machine of 1952 and ever since, as it is much too fast. Planes cruising at 5000 miles per hour at an altitude of 18.000 feet would simply immediately disintegrate. Rockets of that time did not have the observed maneuverability".

"The fact that the objects arrived head on, turned back, paced the plane, went away to joined with a much larger one which then fled away at an impossible speed is indicative of an intelligent driven operation."

"No known human plane or rocket emits a blue light".

"Neither meteors nor planes nor rockets do not make rendez-vous".

"No rocket or plane has the size seen by the crew for the largest object on the radarscope".

"This was the same agreement that Blue Book and other ufological associations have had about the case. This case is still officially listed in the “UNKNOWN” category by the USAF".

2. The BOAC Stratocruiser UFO Incident;

Hynek Classification: DD http://tinwiki.org/wiki/Hynek_Classification_System

"This is another excellent case of UFO-Aircraft encounters included in the “Blue Book Unknowns”, this time in 1954 involving a British commercial airliner’s crew and passengers seeing multiple UFOs. A fighter jet was scrambled to intercept the UFO as well, but did not find anything. Despite the lack of radar evidence in this case the fact that multiple witnesses(crew and passengers) saw it and it corresponds to another sighting made by a Navy Ice Cutter hundreds of miles away on the same day gives this case a very interesting aspect to explore".

"The big, double decker BOAC (British Overseas Airway Corporation) Boeing Stratocruiser luxury plane, the Centaurus would be followed for 80 miles miles over the North Atlantic “Champagne and Caviar” (New York to London slang term) flight."

Important Details: The Witnesses and Other Important Information

• Captain- James Howard
• First Officer- Lee Boyd
• Navigator- George Allen
• Radio Officer- Douglas Scott
• Engineer Officer- Daniel Godfrey
• Engineer Officer- William Stewart
• Stewardess- Daphne Webster
• 4 more members of the crew and 12 passengers signed sworn statements about their sighting.
• Many of the crew were highly distinguished military veterans of World War Two.
• Cloud ceiling was 14,000 feet, weather at TOS(time of sighting) was clear with unlimited visibility.
• For some reason the official data from this sighting is not available(apparently), however I did find a youtube video from the British Archives that has a clip from an interview with the Captain and crew, as well sketches.

The Sighting;
quote;
"On June 29th, 1954 Flight 510-196 took off from New York at 3:03PM EST. About three hours(6:03PM EST) later after a detour to route via Cape Cod the flight was over the St. Lawrence Estuary near Seven Islands, Quebec at 19,000 feet when the captain noticed some strange objects. Captain Howard stated that the objects were moving at the same speed as the flight, which was around 230 Knots (265 mph). The objects appeared to be on a near parallel course to the aircraft, maybe 3-4 miles ahead of them on the northwest direction".

"Howard stated that the objects were below the cloud cover at this time, he guesses at 8,000 feet. When the aircraft crossed the coast of Labrador the clouds ended and the UFOs became fully visible. Howard also stated that the UFOs appeared to have ascended nearly to their altitude of 19,000 feet. As mentioned earlier in this section the weather at TOS was clear with unlimited visibility. The objects remained with the plane for more than enough time for the crew and several passengers to draw sketches and observe the apparent UFO fleet, which was with the Boeing for twenty minutes in all."

"A statement of the apparent size, shape, and number of unknown objects:
There was one large object and six smaller globular things. The small ones were strung out in a line, sometimes 3 ahead and 3 behind the large one, sometimes 2 ahead and 4 behind, and so on, but always at the same level. The large object was continually, slowly, changing shape, in the way that a swarm of bees might alter its appearance. They appeared to be opaque and hard-edged, gray in color, no lights or flames visible".

http://www.nicap.org/boac.htm
quote;
"After about ten minutes the airplane was now within VHS communication range of Goose Bay, Labrador. After making contact with the control tower:
"They asked us to describe what we were seeing, and told us that they had an F-94 on patrol and would vector him toward us. (The F-94 was a radar-equipped two-seat fighter.)

A little later Goose Bay asked us to change frequency and talk direct to the fighter. On doing so we learned that he had us in radar contact-no mention of anything else visible. I gave him a bearing of the objects from us, and as I did so I noticed that the small objects had disappeared. (My navigator who was watching them closely at this time said that they appeared to converge on, and enter, the large one".)

As the F-94 approached, the large object dwindled in size, still on the same relative bearing as the Stratocruiser, and after a few seconds disappeared. Captain Howard then started his descent into Goose Bay for the refueling stop, and landed at 01:45 GMT. "We were questioned at length by USAF Intelligence at Goose Bay (who, incidentally, seemed totally unsurprised at the sighting - they told us there had been several others in the Labrador area recently)," said Howard. "We left Goose Bay at 03:14 GMT for London, arriving at 12:27 on the 30th."

quote;
"Captain Howard subsequently learned that a doctor and his wife, who were on holiday in Massachusetts, had seen a number of objects flying overhead in a northeasterly direction at about the time the Stratocruiser was being held near the coast of Rhode Island. Unfortunately, Goose Bay had only short range airfield control radar at the time, and the F-94 did not report having tracked the objects on its radar equipment. Since the Stratocruiser left for .London before the fighter returned, Captain Howard had no opportunity to question the crew. But if the hold was caused by unidentified traffic in the Boston control area, Howard surmised, the objects were presumably tracked on radar there".

• exact same type formation of “jellyfish, shape-shifting” UFOs was spotted that same day off the coast of Ungava Bay, Canada by the Navy Ice Cutter The Edisto. Ungava Bay is hundreds of miles away from the BOAC encounter.

After the twenty minute ordeal the Boeing Superfortress landed in Goose Bay to refuel and the rest of its flight was without incident.

Alternate Explanations and Official Explanations

• Mirage- Not likely for multiple reasons, the first being that the terrain over Quebec is mountainous and not flat. The horizon was about 250 miles away to the west-northwest over the Otish Mountains. The updrafts from the mountains also tend to cause disruption in the air layers. Secondly the experts at the Condon Committee concluded a mirage was not possible for this case.

Thirdly, the UFOs were too far below the horizon to constitute a mirage. Based on the captains reports there is a 30-45 degree depression angle for the UFOs, some other estimates from other researches have put it at 20-25 degrees. However both estimates are many, many degrees to much to be a mirage based on our current understandings of mirages. More over, the captain stated that the objects had climbed to their altitude of 19,000 feet. This would mean the mirage would have make a smooth transition from a mirage below the horizon (inferior mirage) to one above it(superior mirage) with no disruptions between the changeover.

This is simply unheard of in mirages. Finally a mirage has to reflect off of something, considering the angle of the Sun there seems to be nothing that possibly could have been at that altitude to cause the mirage. For a detailed scientific report weighing the pros and cons of a mirage you can visit the following link:
Mirage Possibilities http://www.nicap.org/boaccq.htm

When the mirage explanation was put forth for the sighting, Captain Howard has this to say this below"

"At 19,000 feet, a mirage of what? Our own aircraft? No. That would be a reflected shadow. The shadow must fall on something to be visible, and there was nothing. The light from the setting sun could not possibly throw a shadow toward itself".

He went on to say:
"It must have been some weird form of space ship from another world".

Official Conclusions;

This case is listed as unexplained in the Condon Report http://www.ncas.org/condonpp.139-40,173,961) although the Committee’s physicist Gordon Thayer said “it was almost certainly a natural phenomenon, which is so rare that it apparently has never been reported before or since.” This case is listed as “UNKNOWN” in the Blue Book Unknowns.http://www.nicap.org/bluebook/bluelist.htm The MoD have not given an explanation either.

3. Conclusions On Both Cases

On the B-29 Case:
quote;
"This one is certainly hard to dismiss as prosaic. Multiple military witnesses, multiple radar hits, and multiple visual conformations. The fact that this case is still unknown to this day, speaks volumes. Cases like this one and the BOAC case covered may not be well known or have a plethora of information and nice pictures but that really doesn’t matter. What evidence this and many others have is more than enough to even hold the USAF and skeptics like the Condon Committee in reserve.

The only somewhat possible alternate explanation (meteor/mirage) is still highly unlikely and to be honest somewhat preposterous .But all things must be looked at respect the scientific method and any reasonable explanations put forth in ufology. the UFOs in this case were very likely extraterrestrial in nature and flying in craft that are still to this day FAR in advance of our best".

On The BOAC Encounter;
quote;
"Again with this case another great set of witnesses with very limited and unlikely prosaic possibilities. Unfortunately there is no photographic evidence once again for this case(as with so many great ones), nor radar contacts confirmed. BUT with over twenty witnesses, two more sightings of the same UFO ‘fleet’ at different locations that day it is believed that whatever the objects were, they defiantly were not any atmospheric phenomena that we know of".

"This is another “Blue Book Unknown”, as well a ‘Condon Unknown’. Once again the available evidence points to something truly unknown going on in our skies then, and still now, today. The scientific research done in this case by many researchers point to that very fact".

"The nature of a craft changing shapes , sizes, and disappearing entirely is still beyond our capabilities today".
